As / However / No matter + adj

  • AS (conjunction) : Adjective + as + subject + verb = although

Angry as he was, he couldn't help smiling  Angry though he was, he couldn't help smiling

A pesar de estar enojado, no pudo evitar sonreír ⇔  Aunque estaba enojado, no pudo evitar sonreír

  • NO MATTER ...: No matter how + Adjective + subject + verb ⇒ Something is true, whatever the situation

No matter how nice she was, she sometimes lost her temper

He can't lose weight no matter how hard he tries

NO MATTER may be followed by "what, when, why, who, whose, where, if".

No matter what road you take, you'll get on time

  • HOWEVER : However + adjective + subject + verb ⇒ degree

However hungry I am, I'm never able to finish a whole pizza (Por muy hambriento que esté, nunca podré terminar una pizza entera)

However polite he's said to be, he cursed at me for five minutes. (Por muy educado que se dice que es, me maldijo durante 5 minutos)
