The subjunctive is used to refer to situations that are not real (but are desirable) or hypothetical situations.

Five alternatives to "Angry"

  • CROSS:

Please don´t get cross with me. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

As / However / No matter + adj

  • AS (conjunction) : Adjective + as + subject + verb = although

Angry as he was, he couldn't help smiling  Angry though he was, he couldn't help smiling

OUT + Verb

The prefix out can be added to many verbs, especially action verbs, to mean "more or greater than".
