The subjunctive

The subjunctive is used to refer to situations that are not real (but are desirable) or hypothetical situations.

Would rather - I'd prefer

I'd prefer to do sth rather than do

I'd rather do sth than (do) sth else

Five alternatives to "Angry"

  • CROSS:

Please don´t get cross with me. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

Speculation and Deduction

  • Must + inf: We use must + inf to say that we are almost sure something is true about the present.

As / However / No matter + adj

  • AS (conjunction) : Adjective + as + subject + verb = although

Angry as he was, he couldn't help smiling  Angry though he was, he couldn't help smiling

Adjectives Order

Opinion adjectives go before descriptive adjectives.

OPINION → SIZE  → AGE  → SHAPE  → COLOUR  → PATTERN  → ORIGIN  → MATERIAL  → NOUN
